Born in a Storm.

Built for You.

When breast cancer turns life upside down, you deserve more than medicine. You deserve real comfort and care from people who understand. That’s how The Umbrella Project began, with one woman’s storm and the friends who covered her with compassion.

The Warrior Who Lit the Way

When our founder, Wanda Kay, was diagnosed with breast cancer, she faced more than a medical crisis. It was the exhaustion. The isolation. The disruption of daily life.

But what carried her through wasn’t just treatment. It was people, her Umbrella Friends, who showed up with meals, recliners, prayers, and presence. They held her up when everything felt heavy.

That circle became a lifeline. And as Wanda healed, she knew this kind of support shouldn’t be rare. Every woman in treatment deserves the same care, comfort, and compassion, without having to ask or explain.

That’s how The Umbrella Project was born.

Our Mission

The Umbrella Project exists to cover you, The Warriors, in the storm of breast cancer treatment by providing practical, emotional, and spiritual support, creating space for healing through compassion, community, and care.

Whether a woman is navigating chemotherapy, recovering from surgery, or juggling life in between appointments, The Umbrella Project steps in with tangible care:

  • Medical recliner rentals to help you rest

  • Soft garments for your recovery

  • Hot meals delivered when you’re too tired to cook

  • Ride support, errand help, or even childcare

  • Handwritten letters of hope

  • Spiritual encouragement and peer mentorship

You are not a burden. You are not alone. We see your strength, and we’re here to help carry what feels too heavy to hold.

Who We Serve & Why We Call Them Warriors

You are a Warrior, whether you see it yet or not.

A Warrior isn’t just someone in a fight. She’s someone who rises, endures, and holds it together for her family, her work, and herself, often without asking for anything in return.

We see that strength in you. And like every Warrior, you deserve to be protected. To be covered.

That’s what we’re here for—not just with kind words, but with meals, comfort items, spiritual care, and people who show up.

What You Can Expect

Grounded in Experience

We’ve lived through breast cancer, and we know what real support feels like. This work isn’t theoretical, it’s personal.

Focused on Real Needs

You receive comfort items and practical help that insurance often overlooks like recliners, meals, ride assistance, and post-surgical garments.

Healing Comes First

We create space for you to rest, recover, and be cared for, without guilt or overwhelm.

Care that Fits You

No two Warriors are the same. We take the time to listen, understand, and respond with care that fits her unique journey.

Powered by Community

From volunteers, to donors, to businesses and sponsors, The Umbrella Project is built on people helping people.

Want to Be Part of the Umbrella?

Whether you’re seeking support or ready to give it, there’s a place for you here. Together, we can help carry the umbrella.

If you’re in treatment and need support, we’re here.
If you’ve walked this path and want to give back, welcome.
If you want to lift someone else’s burden, join us.
If you know a Warrior who needs support, we’re ready.
